NSLSA launches first Legal Literacy Club in school

KOHIMA, October 13 (MExN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) initiated the launch of the first Legal Literacy Club in the state among the schools at Dr. Neilhouzü Kire Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima on October 13.  

Highlighting on what the Legal Literacy Club is about, Sanjib Rana, Panel Lawyer Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) said that the Legal Literacy Club has been set up for the welfare of the students in particular and for the society at large. He further advised the students not to give wrong advice, and that one should be careful while using the internet based social networking sites.  

Nulhuvolu Rhakho, Panel Lawyer KDLSA while speaking on the Role of Para-Legal Volunteers said that PLVs are engaged to ensure legal aid to the people, especially the weaker sections of the society. She said that PLVs are like a bridge between the Court and the common people. Nulhuvolu Rhakho informed that PLVs are expected to assist the Panel Lawyers in Legal Aid Clinics as well as the concern district front office. She appraised that PLVs can also visit Police stations, jails, psychiatric hospitals, children homes and observation homes.  

Bijano, Principal of Dr. Neilhouzü Kire GHSS gave a note of gratitude to the Panel Lawyers for inducting Legal Literacy Club in the School.  

In the vote of thanks Khriesinuo Kire, Panel Lawyer NSLSA added that Dr. Neilhouzü Kire government higher secondary school was the first among the schools in Kohima District where Legal Literacy Club is launched. Legal Literacy Club badges were also distributed to the students to create awareness.  

Meanwhile, Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) conducted an essay competition on the topic “child rights” at Government Higher Secondary School Peren Town on 12th October 2017. Total of 10 students of class 11 participated in the essay competition. Idaizeule, Mercy Rengma and Iheigumlung bagged the first second and third prize respectively.  

The Principal of GHSS Peren gave away certificates with cash prizes to the winners, while the participants were also given participation certificates.
