
Peren, September 29 (MExN): The inaugural programme of Nsong Community Development Plan (CDP) under North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) was held at Nsong village on September 26.
It was informed in a press release that the total cost of the project was Rs. 12, 62,300 where NERLP supported Rs.10,00,000 and Rs.2,62,300 was contributed by the community in terms of unskilled labour and local materials for the successful completion of the activity.
Organized by the Community Development Group (CDG) and the Village Council, the CDP on ‘land reclamation by large cardamom cultivation and providing irrigation facility for vegetable farming’ has been successfully implemented by the community.
The programme was graced by Tsutsowe Kupa, EAC Nsong circle attended by the Village elders, SHG members and staffs of NERLP Peren.
Tsutsowe Kupa, EAC Nsong lauded the villagers saying that Peren is fortunate to have NERLP working in their district as India is a welfare state and projects like NERLP are externally funded and doesn’t have the State share hence are more efficient. He asked the villagers to have sense of ownership of the project and sense of self sufficiency to ensure sustainability of any livelihood activities they are taking up. He also asked the SHG federation and village council to pledge to unite and make a roadmap to progress ahead for their sustainability.
On the occasion, Ruuvilie Kotsu, DPM NERLP Peren challenged the villagers to understand the utility of the asset created and plan for managing these assets by themselves in the long run rather than waiting for the State Government’s rescue if any damage occurs.
In addition, the good practices of NERLP viz ‘Transparency & Accountability’ for the CDP implementation can also be adopted by the village council for any other developmental activities of the village by the various line departments. He also briefed the villagers about the various activities in the district.
He said a saturated total of 1033 SHGs have been formed in the district where Rs.14.00 crores has been supported as Seed and Livelihood funds to the SHGs in the district. 130 SHG credit linkages to banks have been done and another 120 SHGs are in the process of documentation for credit linkage. The total savings of SHG in the District is around 2 crore and 36 SHGVFs has generated interest from the corpus more than Rs. 1 lakh and above.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by the CDG President, invocation by local pastor, welcome address by the VCC and short speech was delivered by the Chairman where he applauded the activities done by NERLP in the village and the trouble everyone took to reach the village in-spite of the poor road conditions.
