 
                          
                  
Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): With a view to enhance livelihoods activities of the Self Help Group members, a one-day awareness camp on sanitation and de-worming on Livestock and poultry was held at Tenyiphe village, Dimapur on October 13.
Athel O Lotha, Mission Director, State Rural Livelihoods Mission exhorted the participants to take up piggery and poultry farming as a commercial activity stating that the state’s import on animal protein from outside the state was high with a huge gap in demand and supply of the commodity. She, therefore, called the Self Help Group members to tap the potential.
She also informed that the State Mission has recruited specialists from Veterinary and Agriculture in all the nine districts where the state mission is present.
The mission director therefore, urged the participants to avail their services in injecting scientific inputs in livestock and poultry activities.
Delivering the keynote address on the core objective of the camp, Dr S Kithan, State Program Manager Livelihoods dwelled on the importance of good sanitation and de-worming practices in piggery and poultry.
He stressed on the importance of adopting scientific practices in animal husbandry and the economic benefits it can bring to the farmers, and challenged the SHG members that increasing the outputs in animal husbandry through scientific practices will assure significant improvement in their income.
Vitamin, Mineral mixtures and de-worming medicines were also distributed free of cost to more than 70 SHG members from 14 villages of Chumukedima Resource block under Dimapur district.
