KOHIMA: The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) lays emphasis on Community Resource Persons (CRPs) as part of its Institution and Capacity Building process whereby, resource persons are selected from the community by community members themselves. The strategy is to uplift women by giving them the opportunity to be leaders and trainers to train Self Help Group (SHG) members in the community. In this context, the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) has laid stress on importance of training women to become resource persons and has signed an MoU with OMPLIS, Orvakal Block, Andhra Pradesh, a National Resource Organisation to jointly address the capacity needs of the 9 Resource Blocks of Nagaland.
36 Internal Community Resource Persons (ICRPs) have been selected (4 each from 9 resource blocks under NSRLM) and have left for Andhra Pradesh accompanied by 9 Area Coordinators. The Training is expected to help in strengthening the resource blocks and rolling out the CRP Strategy. A precursory session was held on March 16 at AIDA, Dimapur. Additional Secretary to the Government of Nagaland and Mission Director, NSRLM Motsuthung Lotha briefed the gathering on the importance of the training, and encouraged them to learn as much as possible for the personal growth and the benefit of the community as a whole. He highlighted the Mission’s vision of empowering women to bring the family and community out of poverty through such intensive strategies. CEO, NSRLM Visasolie Lhoungu urged the women to assist each other during the training process and gather as much knowledge as possible to become important resource persons. State Project Manager M. Rollan Lotha explained about the roles and responsibilities of the ICRPs who would be effectively engaged during implementation and roll-out of CRP Strategy.
It may be noted that as part of the Resource Block Strategy under NRLM (Ministry of Rural Development), the State Rural Livelihood Mission and the National Resource Organization will be engaging Professional Resource Person (PRP) and external Community Resource Person (CRP) Team for developing and strengthening the resource blocks during FY 2014-15. The internal CRPs of Nagaland will form part of this team in mobilizing the community for Formation, Nurturing and Strengthening of SHGs in Nagaland. The PRP Team will be a static team positioned at the Resource Blocks, and the CRP Team will be covering 180 Days of village stay in a year.
The NSRLM hopes that this strategy will help in developing home grown models which will enable scale-up of NRLM Program in the State of Nagaland through the nurtured resource block.
