NSRLM orients community and staff on livelihoods plan

Kohima, July 1 (MExN): The District Mission Management Unit, Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) Kohima conducted one-day orientation programme on livelihood for all district and block staff at District Planning Development Board hall on June 28 and subsequently an orientation for community was held at Tseminyu Block on June 29.  

Sihu Bizo, Project Officer cum District Program Manager in the keynote address asserted that NSRLM has been with the rural communities since 2013 and the institutional building in the rural areas has been commendable.  

It was mentioned in a press release that NSRLM has been working with the institutions of the poor, namely- Self Help Groups, Village Level Organisations and with Block Level Federation in Resource Block and Intensive Blocks under the district.  

“Now with the support structure in place and scaling up of Livelihoods activities under NSRLM Annual Action Plan (AAP) and also with the implementation of Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP) as a sub-component of NRLM, it is expected that the household incomes will be enhanced, and that there will be women empowerment in agriculture by making systematic investments to enhance their participation and productivity,” he added.  

Khesi Yhokha, District Functional Specialist (DFS) gave a detailed presentation on the livelihood activities to be taken up in the Financial Year 2018-19 on both agriculture and livestock for the Self Help Group members in the rural development blocks under Kohima district. He also shared on the different training activities that the Community Service Providers (CSPs) would have to undergo this year. The CSPs will be trained on piggery care and management, poultry care and management, seed selection, seed treatment, line sowing of paddy, non chemical pest and disease management, nutrition garden, organic manure and compost making whereby the CSPs will go to their respective communities and retrain the farmers in the villages.  

Madhabananda Ray, National Resource Person (NRP) under National Mission Management Unit gave a short presentation on the livelihoods activities. He stressed upon the importance of convergence with Agriculture and Allied departments, Veterinary department and MGNREGA for the success of Livelihoods intervention at rural areas.  

The programme was chaired by Pelebeituo Peter Solo (DC-FI), welcome address and a brief overview of social mobilization and community fund status of Kohima district was given by Kenivole Richa Assistant District Program Manager (ADPM).
