NSS Winter adventure Camp 2013-2014

KOHIMA, MARCH 21 (MExN): The Program Officer along with 19th NSS Volunteers from Science College, Jotsoma and Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire successfully completed the 10 days Winter Adventure Camp 2013-14 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS) Manali, HP.

The team was led by Vanthungo Jami, Program Officer, NSS Cell, Unit Kiphire. Volunteers from Kiphire started their journey on February 27 and reached Dimapur the next day. Science College NSS Volunteers reached Dimapur on February 28 evening. All the team members lodged at the Hotel for one night and boarded the Train the next morning. As per the scheduled the team reached Delhi on March 3, and boarded the Manali bus the same morning.

On reaching the institute, Registration for all the members was completed by 10:00 am ( March 4). Briefing and welcome address was delivered by the Hostel i/c Gautam Thakur. Volunteers were also briefed on Team spirit, discipline, attitude, and about the institute. On 5th of March, Lecture was delivered by the Training i/c. Lecture was on education role of the students as an NSS Volunteer, Maintaining of Walking Manners and about the Training.

On March 6 all the NSS Volunteers trekked 23 Kilometers from Manali to Solang Valley. Training course was scheduled at Solang Valley the next day. Training continued for Five days and after the completion of the training Cultural Program was held on March 11. Volunteers from Kiphire presented Sangtam Folk song. Volunteers from Nagaland left the Institute on March 13 where as volunteers from Assam and Meghalaya departed on 12th Evening. While returning back to Nagaland, the team visited Red Fort and Lotus Temple at Delhi. The team members reached Dimapur on 19th March 2013, and went to their respective places.

All the Team Members successfully completed the Adventure Camp(Skiing), River Crossing, Trekking, Camping, Mountain Rescue Methods, Survival, Social Awareness and Leadership. The Adventure Training was conducted in the wilderness of the Himalayas.
