Dimapur/Kiphire (MExN): More district units of the Nagaland Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) have extended support to the Central NSSATA’s ultimatum to the government of Nagaland.
The NSSATA Dimapur unit in a statement said it supports the association’s 7-day ultimatum served on April 23 to the Nagaland government for “non-acceptance of pending salaries without the 7th ROP.” Therefore, it has requested the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) not to disburse the salaries without the provision of the revised pay. “The unit will strictly adhere to the directives of the central team to take further course of action and hereby notifies all members to participate,” it asserted.
Meanwhile, the Kiphire unit also extended solidarity to the Central NSSATA’s ultimatum demanding “inclusion under 7th ROP, regular payment of salaries from state Non-plan budget and release of pending salaries with 7th ROP.”
“The (NSSATA Kiphire) district unit is distressed at the casual attitude shown by the state government towards the SSA teachers despite the known fact that teachers are the pre-requisite in achieving success of any educational programmes,” maintained a press statement from NSSATA Kiphire unit president, Tsapicho Sangtam and general secretary, K Alipa Sangtam.
The Kiphire unit of NSSATA further stressed that any attempt by the government to improve the teachers’ performance in schools will not bear fruits if their job satisfaction is not taken into account. It also questioned the State government’s “indifferent response” in handling SSA grievances, which it said is “acting as a determinant factor affecting job satisfaction and performance of the teachers.”
While admitting that any kind of protest or agitation by teachers will severely impact on the routine functioning of government schools in the State, the unit appealed to its members to be ready to undertake democratic protest “if the authorities act deaf to our demands.”
