NSSB: ENSF for earmarking 45% posts for six Eastern Naga tribes

Tuensang, September 11 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has rejected the present form of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board Regulation, 2020, and instead, put forward a charter of demands to be incorporated into the regulations.

In the letter addressed to the Chief Minister on September 11, the Federation claimed that during the “57 years of Statehood journey, Eastern Nagas were deliberately suppressed and deprived in all aspects.”

“The employment deprivation for the last six decades has put the Eastern Nagas future at stake,” it said, while adding that the few policies introduced by the state government to uplift the Eastern Nagas, “were never implemented in letter and spirit.”

In the letter, ENSF President Sepili L Sangtam and General Secretary Imtichoba Chang listed seven demands that included earmarking 45% of posts for the six tribes of Eastern Naga tribes—Sangtam,  Konyak, Yimchunger, Khiamniungan, Phom and Chang, for 20 years till the tribes are ‘at par with the rest of the other Nagas,’ after which it would be subject to review.

It said that the demands have been made in order to constitute a fair, equal and just NSSB, considering the situation and condition of Eastern Nagas in present context.

The Federation also demanded that the posts of Chairperson and two members should be rotated among the ‘recognised’ Naga tribes of Nagaland on roster basis, “to maintain fair, justice and equality to all tribes.”

Group C posts which are exempted from the preview of NSSB mentioned under schedule-A should be brought under NSSB preview for preliminary and written exam and other practical/skill/physical proficiency and interview should be conducted by the respective department, it said.

It also demanded that the recruitment to the post of Constable/Fireman Constable/Warder/Female Warder in the Police; Prisons; Nagaland Lokayukta; NPTO; HG & CD and Department of Fire and Emergency Services; Excise and Forest Guards in the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department should be brought under NSSB preview for preliminary and written examination. Other practical/skill/physical proficiency and interview should be conducted by the respective departments, it added.

In addition, ENSF demanded that the government include a provision to penalize defaulters (department/officers) who fail to recommend the Group C (Level 3-7) vacancy post to NSSB.

Examination Centres for preliminary and written exam should be set up in all district headquarters, it added.

The ENSF appealed the state government to consider the 'genuine demands,' failing which, it would reject the NSSB Regulation, 2020 in toto.
