‘NSSWB, a platform for women empowerment’

Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): The “Passing out ceremony” of the successful trainees sponsored by the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board was held on March 29 at the Office of the Entrepreneur Development and Integrated Training Institute (EDITI) at 11:00 am.
The ceremony was chaired by Mezhi Managing Director, EDITI.  In her welcome address, she welcomed Rhakila Lakiumong, chairperson NSSWB, who was the chief guest, other members, officials and trainees.
EDITI she stressed, has successfully conducted many training for women and girls in various trades such as beautician, cutting and tailoring, embroidery and computer course and today it was a pleasure to see so many of them successfully complete the course. The support of the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board by sponsoring so many candidates is encouraging as many women and girls could avail theses training and become self reliant in their own way, stated a press note issued by Juliana Sorhie of NSSWB.
The note also stated that Daisy Mezhur, secretary, NSSWB, highlighted the importance of women entrepreneurial skill development and Vocational Training. She said this is a platform and a beginning of achieving greater altitude of women empowerment. She stated “This entry point should be deciding time, what to do with what you have learned from the trade you choose. The State Board will be there to support you but it is you who have to put in the hard work and effort. You should not be satisfied with the earnings of others but try to earn what little you can and in this way you will not only gain your self confidence but you will also be able to contribute to your family. The State Board will be happy to walk that extra mile for any woman who makes an honest effort and strong determination to make a difference irrespective of odds against them.”
Moreover, three trainees Wetshüte-u Khalo, Chichambeni and Rokosüno from all the different trades shared their experiences. In their sharing, they expressed their gratitude to EDITI and NSSWB for giving them the opportunity to avail of the trainings. These training have not only given them the knowledge to learn something new but it has also given them the confidence to become self-reliant and earn something on their own. The prizes for the best trainees were given out after this. The best trainee for cutting and tailoring was – Wetshüte Khalo, the best trainee for  Beautician – Chichambeni, the best trainee for Computer – Tepeu Khesoh. Rhakila Lakiumong, chairperson, NSSWB, awarded the certificates for the successful candidates out.
Rhakila Lakiumong, chairperson, NSSWB also stated happiness and encouragement, to see so many girls coming forward to take vocational trainings so that they can be able to earn on their own. “It is especially encouraging to see that girls from far off district like Tuensang and Mon who have come to take up these training,” she said. She further said that this training should not be the end and when they go back, they should tell others of the NSSWB sponsorship so that many girls who are in need of such a sponsorship should avail the service. They can also form small Self Help Group and teach others on the trades they have learned and such groups will be beneficial to many women who depend on only agriculture as a means of livelihood. EDITI has given such an effort to teach all the trainees and their success is an encouragement for the State Board.
She informally announced that a “Young Women Entrepreneurs Council” will be initiated for follow up action for all the successful trainees .The vote of thanks was proposed by R. Juliana Sorhie, NSSWB ,in which she specially thank EDITI for their guidance and support. The instructors for their patience and all the EDITI staff for organizing a successful programme.
