NSUD golden jubilee celebration on October 30

Dibrugarh, October 24 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Union, Dibrugarh (NSUD) will be celebrating its golden jubilee on the theme 'Honouring the Past, Envisaging a New Tomorrow' on October 30; 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dibrugarh, Assam Compound with Minister for Planning and Coordination; Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Nagaland Neiba Kronu as special guest.

Formed on October 31, 1971 with 22 members, the NSUD was constituted with the aim of unity, friendship and co-operation among the Naga students, the Union stated in a press release on October 24.

Convening its first gathering at Professor SC Gohain’s residence in Dibrugarh, Neikhotso Linyü was selected as the first President along with office bearers Sadang Ao as Vice President, Paul H Pimomo as Secretary, Maongla Ao as Assistant Secretary and Alhing Doungel as Treasurer. After the formation, the Constitution of the Union was first drafted on November 7, 1971 and came into force on November 21, 1971 during the General Session, it added. 

“Dibrugarh has been instrumental for NSUD in particular and the Nagas in general for producing veteran alumni significantly, the lot of Medical doctors and Pharmacists among others from the Northeast and Assam's oldest Medical College- Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and The Dibrugarh University (DU),” the NSUD said.

During the golden jubilee celebration, Naga Students' Federation (NSF) President Kegwayhun Tep will be delivering the solidarity speech and senior alumni members will be delivering short speeches.
