The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has called for the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) allowing candidates to access the marks they obtained in the recruitment interview. The Nagaland unit of the Indian National Congress’ student wing raised concerns about the transparency of the recruitment process conducted by the NSSB for Group C (Pay Levels 3-7) posts at a press conference at the Congress Bhavan, Dimapur on July 26.
State unit president X Chophika Sumi acknowledged the NSSB’s establishment but criticised what he held was the board’s policy of withholding individual candidate marks and cut-off marks after examinations. According to him, the implied lack of transparency generates doubt and opens leeway for potential manipulation.
He held that candidates should have the right to access their scores on the NSSB online portal, similar to the system used by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). He said, “The failure to release cut-off marks raises questions about the fairness and objectivity of the selection process.”
Sumi informed that the state unit will be submitting a memorandum to the NSSB demanding the release of individual scores, including separate tier exam marks, and cut-off marks for all recruitment processes.
Furthermore, the NSUI advocated for expanding the NSSB’s mandate to include all Group C (Pay Level 3-7) recruitment processes. While stating that current exemptions create inconsistencies, he said that the goal is a unified, transparent process, and will be submitting an official memorandum to the NSSB with these demands. He expressed hope that transparency will take the place of inconsistencies.
