DIMAPUR | SEPTEMBER 8
Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) chairperson Sano Vamuzo today said the commission has requested the chief secretary to immediately convene a State level meeting to discuss issues relating to atrocities against women in the State.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the community development facilitators’ convention organised by AIDA, Sano said among the many issues, NSWC will press the government to expedite the many pending cases relating to crime against women.
NSWC chairperson was of the view that though the central government has given enough powers to the states to protect and safeguard the rights and privileges of women, Nagaland State has fared poorly in terms of safeguarding rights and privileges of women. She also hit out at some section of lawyers for attempting to bail out and coming in defence of persons accused in crime against women. Stating that there was “so much to do” on crime against women, Sano lamented that “no one seems to be serious,” especially the political leaders.
