NSWC urge women to ready for polls

Kohima | November 18 : Subsequent to the Gauhati High Court’s direction to the Nagaland government to conduct the civic polls by implementing 33% Women reservation by January 20, 2012, Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) today asked all Naga apex women tribal organizations to gear up for the elections. During a press conference held in Kohima today, chairperson of NSWC Sano Vamuzo and members Ellen Konyak and Abeni TCK urged the organizations to ready for the polls,
The commission reiterated that women must contest in the polls, basing on resolutions taken on December 23, 2009, to field ‘consensus women candidates’ in all town and municipal councils in the state and not through political parties. The commission reiterated to stand in all women-reserved wards. This approach was discussed during the consultative meeting held with apex tribal organizations including the Naga Mothers’ Association today.
Also to observe “Forth Night Observation of Violence Against women”, starting from November 25 till December 3, the commission said to have distributed all required materials towards organizing a meeting during the scheduled 9 days in all the districts.
