NSWON flays “miya” scourge

Dimapur, August 26 (MExN): Naga women are cautioned to be on watch against the “foul play” of “miya” (generally Muslim) traders and labourers who are flooding into Nagaland. In the backdrop of the reported gang-rape and brutal murder of a 30 year old Naga woman on August 22 in New Ralan area of Wokha, the Nationalist Socialist Women Organisation of Nagalim today took strong note of “all kinds of vices brought by such outsiders.”

Reportedly the victim was married to a Muslin trader and the rapists belonged to the husband’s community. “It is loud and clear that the flooding of outside traders and labourers in Nagaland, especially the miyas whose sole intention is to get money and wealth. They have no respect for the age old Naga culture, tradition and religion. Naga society is diluted with all kinds of vices brought by such outsiders is a menace to the society and its existence less drastic action is taken to eliminate before it destroys us,” the NSWON stated in a note today.

According to the women wing of the NSCN (IM), women occupy ‘a very unique position,’ in the “Naga way of life.’ “But these eminences of Naga women are attacked time and again in the form of rape, torture, force labour and even to the extend of compelling to indulge in flesh trade,” the NSWON stated. The NSWON has advised Naga women to be “more aware and alert” so they do not fall prey to lose “her chastity by foul play of the outsiders.”
