NSYA, NSSU appeals for Justice

Letter to the Chairman, NSCN (Unification)

With due respect, the office of the undersigned, while condemning the torture and shooting of New Socunoma Youth Association (NSYA) Youths by some NSCN (Unification) Cadres, would like to place before you our grievances and appeal your esteemed authority to deliver justice without delay or default for the inhuman acts of torture meted to two of our youths by some cadres of NSCN (Unification) on the night of 22nd May 2013 within the New Socunoma village jurisdiction which resulted in a bullet injury.

That Sir, on that fateful night at about 10.30 pm the two youths of our village (one the Church Youth Director and the other a Student Union Executive) were returning to the village after catching some frogs to nourish a sick member of their family when some cadres of NSCN (Unification) came in a Maruti 800 car and halted them on the road and snatched their belongings (one mobile phone and two torch lights) at gun point. Then the cadres asked which tribe and which village they belonged. The two youths said that they were Angamis and lived in New Socünoma village. Then one of the cadres from inside the car shouted “maribi, maribi…” (beat them up / do it). Then the cadres without any rhyme or reason physically assaulted them delivering blows and kicks all over their body including their private parts even while the two youths pleaded for mercy throughout the process of the torture. Then the two youths were dragged apart to a distance at gun point where one of the youths was shot at, causing injury in the leg.  Not satisfied the cadres forced the two youths to remove their own clothes and made them parade completely naked to the village even after being wounded by the bullet and the physical assaults, threatening them that if they turn back, they will be shot dead. Then the cadres fled from the place.

By the grace of providence their fatal bullet missed the vital part of the body but left one of the youths wounded in the leg. To our utter dismay, one gentleman who introduced himself to be a Public Relations Officer (PRO) of your government in his address to our villagers at our community hall  on the 23rd May 2013 said that the case is just “choto moto”(trivial) and advised us not to make it a big issue. Such callous statement has hurt our sentiments furthermore.

The NSYA is deeply hurt for such act of dacoity, act of inhuman torture, attempt of murder, and act of sadism meted to the two innocent youths of our village and for the further undermining of the issue by the PRO, and therefore, we earnestly request your esteemed authority to kindly look into our grievances with utmost priority and book the culprits and deliver justice to the satisfaction of the aggrieved party so as to re-instate the good faith we repose on you.

Dr. Rovi Zhunyu
President, NSYA
