NTC asks state leadership to divulge contents of Framework Agreement

DIMAPUR, APRIL 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) today asked the state leadership to divulge the contents of the Framework Agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India.

The NTC, in a press note, posited that the “When the Party President who is also the Chief Minister of the state is so confident in expressing such unconditional support to an exclusive agreement between GoI and NSCN (IM) the NTC believes that the state leadership knows the contents of the agreement and feels contented with the provisions in it.”

The NTC said this in reference to the statement made by Nagaland State Chief Minister, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu during the Kohima Division NPF Convention held at Kohima recently expressing the NPF’s support to the Framework Agreement.

“The incumbent Chief Minister of Nagaland is not only the leader of a prominent political party but is also the leader of the State of Nagaland, and therefore immense responsibility and accountability to the people of Nagaland in particular,” it reminded.

“The state leadership has first to satisfy the stakeholders before he lends support to such an important deal,” it said. The NTC claimed that the Framework Agreement “is an exclusive accord between GoI and NSCN (IM) without taking on board the major stakeholders.”

While lauding the State Leadership for saying that “this does not mean the party supports one political group,” the NTC asked what would be the mechanism to include other Naga political groups “in the already signed agreement.”

The NTC meanwhile reiterated that “any agreement under the framework will be an imposition since the major stakeholders were not taken into confidence prior to finalization of the said agreement.”

“In the light of the ongoing unpalatable situation, the state leadership owes answer should anything go wrong to the future of Nagaland,” it added.
