NTC, AYO condemn ambush

Kohima, June 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) and Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) have condemned the ambush of Assam Rifles personnel by the NSCN (K) in Mon district’s Aboi on June 17. Two personnel, including a young Naga sepoy, were killed and several others injured in the incident.

Reminding the NSCN (K) of the “ongoing negotiation for political solution,” the NTC’s Media Cell stated in a press release today that “The NSCN (K) is expected to be humane and have a sense of respect for the efforts of fellow negotiators whose sole aim is to bring about sustainable peace to our land.” It appealed to the NSCN (K) to “shun violence and look for the path of peace for the sake of peaceful co-existence.”

“Nagas are now tired of tolerating violence, be it amongst ourselves or between the Nagas and GoI. This very act of violence is considered to be disrespectful to the popular desire of the Nagas for peace and progress,” it noted.

The NTC also urged both the security forces and the NNPGs to “maintain maximum restrain at this stage and avoid all forms of offensive actions and provocations, and allow conducive atmosphere for genuine engagement to bring out lasting political solution to the protracted Naga political problem.”

The AYO meanwhile stated, “All Nagas have been longing for peace and tranquillity in our lands and as such the AYO extends its solidarity to the Eastern Nagas particularly to the Aboi area public and appeals for peace and to shun the path of violence.”

A press statement from AYO general secretary, Kekhrie Pfukha and president, Neinguvotuo Krose further appealed to all Naga groups as well as the security forces to restrain themselves from further escalation of violence and seek peaceful means for resolution of the Indo-Naga conflict.   It also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and also wished speedy recovery to the injured.
