DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Theological Colleges Association (NTCA) today declared their support to the Clean Election Movement (CEM) under the aegis of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC).
To enhance the Clean Election Movement (CEM) called upon the theological community and the citizens of the land to be a part of the Clean Election Movement. It asked the people to do away with the practices of selling votes for money, dual voter IDs, proxy voting, intimidation, booth capturing, consensus candidates etc. It further asked the people to ensure that they follow the Election Code of Conduct laid down by the Election Commissioner of India (ECI).
“There is a need of a leader not for conquest but one who stands for love and sacrifice. One needs to point out problems and issues of unequal distribution of wealth. The Churches should be a channel and call for theological education to say no to corrupt money,” the NTCA stated.
“It has always been the position of the NTCA that the Church and politics is community that served the people, though there are mutually independent and self -governing. However, this further calls for all cooperation and putting themselves at the service of humanity,” the NTCA said.
This common purpose will mean that the Church and politics on occasion share a common ground in their pursuit of a more just society, it observed. The association said that the Church has the right and duty to provide a moral judgment on temporal matters, when this is required by faith or moral laws.
It stressed that the Clean Election Movement seeks to “instruct and illuminate the common conscience of the faithful, particularly those involved in election, so that their actions may serve the promotion of the human person and the common good of all.”
The NTCA appealed to all to “promote Christian principles and the common good and actively participate in the democratic order of election.”
