
Mon, July 21 (MExN): In order to improve the quality of implementation of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) at the state and district levels, the National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC) at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) has formulated a range of activities under NTCP.
In this connection, the NTCP Mon, on July 19 visited District Hospital to train the medical officers, nurses and the health staffs and on July 20 and 21 visited Holy Cross School and Wangkhao College under the school programme, to bring about greater awareness concerning the harmful effects of tobacco use.
A press release stated that District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Mon, Dr I. Simon Sumi explained in minute details about the tobacco use and its effects on the human boby; Statistical facts of tobacco consumers in Nagaland and morbidity rate in India; Chemicals present in tobacco products; Diseases caused by smoking and second-hand smoke; and tobacco related oral diseases. In the end, Dr Simon requested the students to say it out loud “NO to tobacco, choose LIFE not tobacco.” District Media Officer, Leeyan Chemshy, School Health Coordinator, Mewang Konyak and IDSP Data Manger, Emo accompanied District Nodal Officer, NTCP for the programme.
