Phek, September 26 (MExN): The National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) Phek carried out an awareness programme on the ‘harmful effects of Tobacco’ at Baptist School, Pfutsero and Bishop Abraham Memorial School Phek on September 18 and 24 respectively.
A press release issued by District Media Officer, Phek stated that Neiweh Lasuh, Social Worker of District Tobacco Control Cell speaking at Baptist School, Pfutsero highlighted on the harmful effects of tobacco on one’s health and advised the students to keep away from these harmful substances.
Dr Reyosalu Lase Vizo, District Nodal Officer speaking at Bishop Abraham Memorial School Phek highlighted the students and teachers on the harmful effects of tobacco stating that it contains harmful chemicals and can cause cancer, and that it is dangerous to health. She also imparted the participants the history of patients suffering from oral cancer who started consuming tobacco from their adolescents period. Dr Lase further called upon the students not to indulge in the habit of consumption of tobacco .Students from classes 6 to 10 attended the awareness programme. Leaflets on the harmful effects of tobacco were also handed out to the students, the release said.
