NTJCC seeks timely intervention of govt

Dimapur, August 9 (MExN): An organization set up to “unify all the Naga tribes”, ‘Nagaland Tribals Joint Co-ordination Committee’ (NTJCC) expresses worry that the imbroglio between Yimchungrii and Sangtam communities would  escalate.
“The dispute disrupted Pungro road show co-inciding with Metemneo festival of the Yimchungrii tribe and there is apprehension that Kiphire road show during Amongmong festival of Sangtam tribe too would be disturbed,” stated the  NTJCC in a note  today. The note from the NTJCC convenor sought “magnanimity” from both the communities’ leaders in resolving their issues.

“The leaders, both secular and spiritual, should exhibit their magnanimity in thrashing out a permanent solution either through customary law or through sincere dialogue. The desired outcome can be expected only if both sides have accommodative spirit and exercise give-and-take policy,” the NTJCC stated. ‘For generations Sangtam and Yimchungrii have been living together and will remain so even in future. Therefore, it is pertinent that they learn how to co-exist in fraternity and brotherhood.’

The two communities are also advised not mix their contentions “with developmental activities or at the cost of government programmes and policies.” The ultimate losers are the common public of the area, the note reminded. They should, however, raise their voices against “the wrong doing,” it stated. The committee appeals to the administration and state government for ‘timely intervention before the situation gets out of control.’ The two tribal communities’ leaders are asked to sit together, discuss and hammer out a lasting solution.
