Established with the objective to develop skilled manpower and to create employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth, the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur is achieving its goals by providing new avenues.
Since the centre was established in 2006 by the Government of Nagaland with assistance from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, NTTC (A Government of Nagaland Society, Industries & Commerce Department) is providing alternate viable livelihood opportunities suited to the needs of the youth.
The NTTC is gaining popularity among the north-eastern region and presently students are being drawn from the state of Nagaland and neighbouring states especially Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura.
It is believed that “The zeal for excellence and commitment of the employees has been pushing the centre to even greater heights of quality industry-oriented training programmes.”
NTTC has been a significant contributor to wide range of sectors in the industry. It has contributed to not only the skill aspect but also through its innovations in machinery and tools, it has made an impact in different sectors of the industry. It has also created new opportunities for the youth by providing newer avenues of employment and entrepreneurship.
NTTC has successfully developed some rural based simple and useful technologies for use by the rural population to reduce their drudgery on a day-to-day basis for their works.
Few of the technologies are Smoke free Meat Dryer, Chaff Cutter, Corn Sheller, Fodderizer, Sheet Bender cum Shearing, Tapioca Slicer and Vegetable Crusher cum Slicer.
The Centre have been conducting 4 years Diploma in Tool & Die Making (DTDM) course approved by AICTE, New Delhi, Govt. of India (including one year Industrial Training/OJT in reputed companies) since 2007-08 which is equivalent to Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. The present intake to the course is 60 students per year. During the course, students are undergoing with adequate theoretical inputs and extensive hands on practical training.
The intervention of NTTC is centred around training focused at skill development of the youth. With a vision of “Skilled India Mission”, NTTC aims to skill the youths on a large scale with speed and high standards. NTTC has various career medium and short term courses like milling, turning, grinding, welding fabrication, electrical, carpentry, masonry, Multi-skill Development course. Many of these courses are open to students who have dropped out from schools/colleges but are interested to learn and get back to either starting their own enterprise or working in the industry. In the meantime, NTTC also conduct various job oriented computer courses such as Diploma in Computer Application, Diploma in Graphic Designing, Diploma in Video Editing, Diploma in Web Designing, Advanced Diploma in Multimedia, Certificate in Hardware & Networking, Desktop Publishing, CAD/CAM.
NTTC is also conducting Vocational Diploma courses in Automobile, Manufacturing and Electrical (1000 hours course duration in each course) under AICTE, New Delhi Community College Scheme, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
Job Placement is an important activity of NTTC, Dimapur. NTTC believes practice makes a man perfect. NTTC always tries to give quality training and provide the best platform to the recruiters so that they can avail the most suitable candidates. Throughout the training process, the Centre tries to shape the students best suitable to the industry. NTTC has made proven track record that a considerable effect has been noticed since many youths has ventured out as an entrepreneur, earning through daily wage earners as well as had joined various organizations both within and outside the state for their livelihood since the last ten (10) years of its existence.
