NTTU opposes FCA

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): Affirming that all natural resources including forests belong to the Naga people, the Nagaland Timbers Traders Union (NTTU) has appealed to the Nagaland State Government not to give recommendation on the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act 2023 passed by Parliament on August 2. NTTU President, Kevise Sogotsu informed that the union will approach the court in the event the State Government gives approval to the Act. The NTTU said they have been working for more than 30 to 40 years depending on plantations and investing their time and resources, and therefore vowed to fight for their rights. Since Article 371A makes special provision with respect to the State of Nagaland to protect Nagas on ownership and transfer of land and its resources, the NTTU said. It further appealed to the members of the State Cabinet to refrain from giving their assent to the Act.
