Kohima, November 18 (MExN): The Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University in collaboration with the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (CNESPR), Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi conducted a two-day National Conference on the theme, ‘Language and Identity in Northeast India: Emerging trends and Narratives’ on November 17 and 18.
Addressing the inaugural session on November 17, Dr RK Debberma, an Assistant Professor TISS, Guwahati Campus and Chairperson-Unit for Research and Development, Convenor-Social Protection Office, dwelled on identities in times of new liberalism, the history of identity divisions in North-East India.
He highlighted various issues of identities in NE India and emphasised on how people fight for autonomy for identity’s sake citing various accords and agreements that exist in the region about identities.
Earlier, Dr Pangersenla, Head, Department of Linguistics gave the opening remarks while short speeches were delivered by Prof Buno Liegise, Administrative in-charge, NU and Kokho, Assistant Professor, Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
The programme was attended by professors and research scholars from various Universities from all over the country, informed a press release from the department.
