
Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): Agri. students of NU: SASRD organized agricultural exhibition in six villages of Phek district from September 23 to 24. The exhibition was organized under a component of Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP), which is jointly organised by NU: SASRD and the Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland. 55 students are undergoing three months of village placement from August to November under RAWEP.
The exhibition was organized in Lasumi, Zapami, Kami villages on September 23 and Lekromi, Pfutseromi and Kikruma villages on September 24, informed a press release from Dr. K.K. Jha, Associate Prof. (Ag. Extension), NU: SASRD and RAWEP Coordinator.
The programme was graced by Heweto Sema, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Phek, who lauded the efforts of the students, the release stated.
Dr. K.K. Jha, RAWEP Coordinator gave specific guidelines for evaluation of exhibits and appealed to the villagers for adoption of innovations.
The exhibits, prepared by the students using locally available resources, included wide range of innovative recycled products, processed agricultural products, jam and squash made of locally available fruits, village resource map, scientific housing systems for pigs and poultry, insect pest management techniques, improved farm implements for reducing manual labour, eco friendly agricultural practices for improved productivity, cost effective bamboo products and many other value added products to capture the attention of rural people for skill development and profitability.
The exhibitions were witnessed by more than 800 farmers from the villages along with respective Village Council Chairmen, VDB Secretaries, GBs, youth leaders, women, and children. The exhibits were evaluated by Neiku Tsido, SDAO from DAO office, Phek; Dr. LY Longchar (SE); and Dr. K.K. Jha, RAWEP Coordinator.
