The Nagaland University Teacher’s Association (NUTA) staged a protest against the CAA, NRC, RIIN and violence against teachers and students in various universities across the country. The protest was called by the NUTA Central Executive Council (CEC).
It was held outside the Nagaland University, Lumami administrative building and was joined by the Nagaland University Research Scholars Forum (NUSRF) and Nagaland University Student’s Union (NUSU).
During the peaceful protest, Professor Sangyu Yaden, President, NUTSA, Lumami, said that the CAA was a discriminatory act and that it is a danger for the citizens and will prove to be a burden and a threat to Naga culture and identity. He further expressed concern over the silence among the Naga people on this issue.
Nito Khulu, President NUSU also said that ILP and Article 371(A) cannot save the Naga people and that it is not immune to CAA. “How can we feel safe with ILP and Article 371(A) when the Constitution itself is in danger”, he said.
Other members from the teachers association and student union also spoke during the protest.
In Kohima as well, the NUTA staged a sit in protest at Nagaland University Kohima campus, Meriema.
NUTA CEC president Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichu in her address said the CAA is highly undemocratic and not secular. She further expressed concern that people are not allowed to voice their opinions and there have been attacks on protesters. She said it is time for the central government to listen to the voice of the citizens and revoke the CAA.
She further stated that every citizen should have access to all fundamental rights of the Constitution and remarked that if the government does not respect the Constitution then the dark days are ahead.
