NUHM empowers Mahila Arogya Samiti members in Dimapur

NUHM conducted an orientation programme for Mahila Arogya Samiti members at the Chief Medical Officer's conference hall in Dimapur.

Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): The National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) conducted an orientation programme for Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) members at the Chief Medical Officer's conference hall in Dimapur. 

A press release issued by the CMO office, Dimapur stated that the programme was organised in three batches and concluded on May 16.

During the introductory session, Dr T Temsu Lkr, CMO Dimapur stated that MAS plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between the urban communities and the healthcare system. He appreciated the members for their contributions towards community health and encouraged them to continue working closely with the ASHAs and AWWs, and also continue supporting the Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) staffs.

He further stated that the orientation programme aims on building the capacity of MAS members to take ownership of their health and healthcare needs, and to enable them to make informed decisions and demand quality services. He also stated that MAS is an empowered group of women and their role is to promote collective action on health-related issues, and also take active part in the planning, implementing, and monitoring health programs. They should also spread awareness and facilitate access to health entitlements under various government schemes to the communities.

The resource persons for the programme were Toshinaro, District Consultant, NUHM, Imlilemla, District Community Mobilizer, and Tirangsungla, Block ASHA CO-ordinator. A total of 122 MAS members under NUHM Dimapur participated in the orientation programme.
