Nurses with guest resource persons after the two-day seminar cum workshop held for nurses at CISHR, Dimapur on February 27 and 28.

 

Dimapur, February 29 (MExN): The College of Nursing and the Nursing Service, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) organised a two-day seminar cum workshop on Nursing Governance and Leadership in the 21st Century on February 27 and 28 for nurses under 35 years of age. 


Prof Gitumoni Konwar, PhD, Dean cum Principal, Royal Global University, Guwahati and Jasper Damaris, MPhil, Associate Director - Nursing, Emmanuel Hospital Association were the guest resource persons.


Faculty from the College of Nursing, Dr Christy Simpson, Principal and Associate Professors Lalthanzami and Khumjanbeni Murry, College of Nursing as well as the Medical Superintendent of CIHSR, Dr Clement Momin took up various sessions.


Delegates for the seminar were apprised on topics such as new and emerging paradigm of leadership practice, leadership challenges, leadership skills, networking and advocacy, conflict transformation and interdisciplinary approach. 


During the workshop, the participants were taken through team building exercises, brainstorming on strategic skills for governance professionals and learned to use reflection for self-development.


Around 140 individuals attended the seminar while the workshop had 40 participants.  As per a press release received here, the year 2020 has been designated by the World Health Organization as ‘The Year of the Nurse and the Midwife,’ in honour of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.


To commemorate the event, the International Council of Nurses launched the Nightingale Challenge asking every health employer around the world to provide leadership and development training for a group of young nurses and midwives.
