NUSU (L) sets 7 days to address grievances

Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): The Nagaland University Students‘Union, Lumami NUSU (L) has served a deadline to the Nagaland University (NU) authorities demanding redressal of various “genuine grievances” faced by the students’ community within 7 days time.

Among others grievances, the Union in a press release highlighted that the number of buses plying to Mokokchung for weekly Saturday outing has been reduced from 8 to 5. The University bus plying to girls hostel every morning is also no longer in service, it added.

Further, NUSU (L) alleged that the only Health Centre in NU is in a deplorable state, “with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), being on leave and not even sighted from last year.”

There is also shortage of medicine and during National Holidays and even weekends, the Health centre remains closed, it added.   In this connection, the union “strongly demanded” the resumption of 8 buses to ply students to Mokokchung on weekly Saturday outings as the university is located in an outskirt area.

The morning buses service to girls’ hostel should also be immediately resumed, it added.

The NUSU (L) further demanded that the CMO “be in station immediately” while also calling for improvement of medical facilities.

The Health services should also be provided service even during National Holiday and weekends, it maintained. The NUSU (L) also maintained that it had appealed to the concerned authority through “several letters of request, prayers and petitions” however, the NU has “paid no heed to its plea.”

In this regard, the union has asked NU to address the matters “within 7 days time, i.e. from April 6-13.

“Failing which NUSU (L) left with no other alternative, will go forward with a Gandhian peaceful demonstration,” stated the release issued by NUSU (L) President K.Chumseli Anar and General Secretary Esther Lohe.
