DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur conducted the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) at Medziphema Town, as part of the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s nationwide initiative to combat malnutrition and promote child health and nutrition.
The 2025 campaign focused on five themes: addressing obesity by reducing sugar and oil consumption, early childhood care and education (Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi), Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, infant and young child feeding practices, and men’s involvement in nutrition and caregiving.
Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS, Home Science, KVK Dimapur, highlighted the importance of a balanced diet and the harmful effects of excessive salt, sugar and oil. She discussed the merits and demerits of local cuisines, the influence of ultra-processed foods on dietary habits, and their links to non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes, cancer and hormonal imbalances including PCOD in women. She also advised on dietary modifications for these health issues.
Dr Moanaro, Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur, addressed obesity-related challenges in the state. A Poshan Thali competition based on Angami traditional cuisines was held, including discussions on modifying diets while retaining traditional food practices. A total of 24 women from Medziphema town participated in the programme.
