Nutrition Fortnight from March 20; SPMU outlines action plan

Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): Poshan Pakhwada (Nutrition Fortnight) in Nagaland will be launched on March 20 and celebrated through April 3.

Informing this in a press release on Friday, the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) said that the fortnight would be celebrated under three themes: promote and popularise Shree Anna/Millet for nutritional wellbeing, celebration of Swastha Balak Spradha, and popularising Saksham Anganwadis, keeping in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD).

The SPMU informed that key activities under the first theme, as per the action plan, would revolve around demonstration of millet recipes, cooking competition, awareness on good health through millet intake, community based events on importance of millet in the nutritional profile of pregnant women, adolescent girls and children. Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs, SHGs, husbands and mothers etc will participate actively in the activities.

Under the second theme, focus would be given to home visits for nutritional education and growth monitoring, healthy baby shows, incentivising winning child, ranking of healthy children and growth monitoring, and screening of pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls in anemia camp, it said. For the third theme, activities such as WASH/cleanliness drives at Anganwadi Centers and seminars on importance of hand washing would be conducted.

Celebration of Poshan Pakhwada will be concluded on April 3 and the day will be observed by awarding the best performing grassroot level worker in the presence of local bodies, it informed.

The SPMU meanwhile, requested all convergent departments and all the people of the state to implement the action plan across all districts and blocks, and appealed for mass participation in Poshan Pakhwada.
