NVCFM opposes fencing of Indo-Myanmar border

SENAPATI, OCTOBER 9 (MExN): The Naga Village Chief Federation Manipur (NVCFM) has strongly opposed the proposed fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga-inhabited areas. This stance was reaffirmed during the federation's second assembly held on August 24, 2024.

In a press statement issued by Secretary Sn Darthot Peter on October 9, the NVCFM criticized the Government of India’s border fencing policy, asserting that it infringes upon the rights of the Naga people, which are protected under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The federation has called upon all presidents, chairpersons, and chiefs of relevant associations to implement a non-cooperation stance towards the government and any agencies involved in the fencing initiative. Additionally, NVCFM appealed to all Naga villages chief to kindly abide by the directive in the interest and welfare of the Nagas.
