NVCO for use of govt constructed buildings as Quarantine Centres

DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has called for the utilization of the several hostels, lodges, centres and multipurpose buildings constructed by the government as quarantine centres for returnees to the State.

A press release from the NVCO said that the Nagaland Government spent an “amount of Rs.16049.81 lakhs for the construction of several hostels, institutions, tribal halls, guest houses, lodges, cultural centres, multipurpose buildings, youth centres, working women hostels, EMRS etc, in all the 11 districts in Nagaland."

It added that these facilities are availed by “several individuals, institutions, NGOs, civil society groups, tribal hohos and village organizations.”

The NVCO pointed out that the State Government is spending huge amount of money even for quarantine centres especially hotels and now it is coming to a point of serious shortages in all the districts, especially Kohima and Dimapur.

“Several Village Councils and Town Wards are also struggling in managing 14 days home quarantine after the completion of 14 days institution quarantine managed by the state government,” it added.

“If at all the appeal made by the NVCO receives no response, then the State Government has to set up a strong Enquiry Committee to physically verify the said properties/projects,” the NVCO stated.

It meanwhile said that a crucial time has come to do “the check and balance” to build the state’s economy, human resource, infrastructural development, etc..
