
Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): The president of the Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organisation (NVCO), Kezhhokhoto Savi, Advocate and a recipient of the First Prize National Youth Award on Consumer Protection, will be the main resource person for the seminar session at a function-cum-seminar programme to be held at the Town Hall in Mokokchung in observance of the World Consumer Rights Day on March 15.
A press release issued by the Secretary of NVCO, Mhashesel Savi stated that the programme which is being organized by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection is set to be held under the theme ‘Empowerment of Consumer – Assert Rights, Pursue Remedies’ which is the common theme for the observance of the World Consumer Rights Day throughout the country.
The release stated that the NVCO president Kezhhokhoto Savi has said that the observance of March 15 as the world consumer rights day is intended to serve as an occasion for highlighting the need for promoting consumer awareness and the measures taken by the government and other agencies involved in promoting consumer protection and welfare.
The release also stated that the NVCO head has said that the observance of the day serves to remind us about the need to make the consumers more concerned about their rights, particularly in the rural areas. The responsibility of this rests with all of us and more particularly with the government agencies, the release stated.
The state government is responsible for establishment and proper functioning of the State Commission and the District Forum set up under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
