NVFAA re-inducts president, focuses on welfare and professional commitment

Chümoukedima, April 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Veterinary Field Assistants Association (NVFAA) held its general conference on April 24 at Chümoukedima Town Hall, with Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dr Kuokehebi Gwirie, attending as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Gwirie appreciated the Veterinary Field Assistants (VFAs) for encouraging and recognising each other through various activities. He emphasised that veterinary care requires collaboration among veterinarians, VFAs, technicians and staff to ensure quality services for the public.

Describing VFAs as frontline health workers, he said their role bridges animal health, environmental health and human society. While noting that VFAs are trained with basic skills and knowledge, he stressed the need for continuous dedication and professional development.

He also cited examples of farmers and pet owners who, despite lacking formal training, possess strong knowledge of animal health and farm management due to their commitment. He urged VFAs to uphold integrity, remain resilient and continue serving despite challenges, adding that the profession is service-oriented and often requires working under difficult field conditions.

Referring to ongoing animal vaccination drives being conducted in mission mode, Dr Gwirie said budget allocations and funding are linked to performance, as assessed by the Government of India. He noted that timelines set by the Centre often pose challenges due to terrain, internet connectivity issues, tagging requirements and OTP generation problems, and called on VFAs to work collectively to meet targets. The Director further appreciated the efforts of VFAs in organising the conference and assured that the department would make its best efforts to address long-pending service career concerns and improve working facilities, while acknowledging the support of the state government.

During the valedictory session, retired JFM and Governor’s Commendation Awardee (2016), Neizo Chale, shared his experiences as the inventor of the “Small Animal Restrainer” and encouraged VFAs to cooperate with colleagues and superiors, maintain punctuality, and respect senior members to gain knowledge and confidence.

Meanwhile, NVFAA members expressed gratitude to their president for her contributions towards the welfare of VFAs. Nosazonu Puyo was re-inducted as the president, with members reaffirming their support to her and the executive team in pursuing the rights and welfare of the association.
