NVSU Khanapara celebrates Golden Jubilee

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 14 (MExN): The Naga Veterinary Students' Union (NVSU) Khanapara, Guwahati of College of Veterinary Science celebrated their Golden Jubilee on January 13 at LM Auditorium, Pan Bazar. The program was graced by Dr Zasekuolie Chüsu, IAS, Secretary, Transport Department, Govt of Nagaland & Director, Census Operation, Nagaland, Govt of India as Chief Guest and Prof (Dr) Yanbeni Humtsoe, Vice Principal and HOD Department of PTSR(Obstetrics and Gynaecology) Government Ayurvedic College, Guwahati was the Guest of Honour. 

Dr KN Zubemo Humtsoe, President of Nagaland Veterinarians' Association & Deputy Director, Department of Animal Husbandry and and Veterinary Services, Govt of Nagaland; Dr. Bendangla Changkija, Asst Professor, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Ethics and Jurisprudence, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, AAU; and Dr Ithika C Swu, Director and Owner, Wagging Tails, Veterinary Clinic and Pet Shop, Dimapur were the resource persons who exhorted the students.

The Chief Guest reminisced his time with the union. In his speech, he callED the veterinary profession a noble profession as there is no communication with the patients. He emphasised on the importance self determination, self confidence and self discipline. 

The Guest of Honour said that Nagas always shy away from approaching teachers for clearing their doubts and asking for help. She advised the students to be free and approach their teachers for any help. She also commended on the advancements made in the veterinary profession.

Dr Bendangla Changkija exhorted the students to dream big and venture out and explore. She said that she always feels proud when her students excel not only in their academics but also in other activities and encouraged them to do their best.

Dr KN Zubemo Humtsoe called the jubilee a reflection of the past and celebration of the present. He said that the students are the future and the dream of society. He illustrated that the veterinary profession is not just animal centric but also involves public safety and emphasised on the need for combined efforts between veterinarians and medical doctors to combat with the emerging diseases.

Dr Ithika C Swu called the profession not just a noble profession but also a satisfying profession. He said that there is a change in the mentality of the society and people are now seeking for better healthcare for their pets. He said that the veterinary industry is going to take India forward and encouraged the students to go for further studies and not just be content with their bachelor's degree. He also spoke on the need of development in the farming sector and encourages the students to dive into it.
