Nyemwang Konyak bags top prize at State Level science seminar

KOHIMA: Nyemwang Konyak of Mayangnokcha Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung bagged the first position during the State level seminar held at Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima under the topic, ‘A Century of Physics—Achievements and Challenges’. 

Nyemwang will represent the State at the forthcoming National Science Seminar on October 4 in Mumbai.

H. Ikato Aye and Anshuman Mishra of Olympic Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto and Bethel Higher Secondary School, Kohima were placed in the 2nd and third position respectively.

The State level science seminar has registered a significant improvement in Nagaland as compared to the previous years. “The participants have became more systematic in their presentation of topics”, says Keneingu-u Rutsa, teacher TM Government High School, Kohima.

Altogether, 10 students of 9 educational institutions from different parts of the state participated in the event. The schools are- Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Bethel Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Bethesda School, Dimapur, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha, Olympic Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto, Imsutemjen Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, Mayangnokcha Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, Don Bosco School, Mon and Government Higher Secondary School, Mon.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Nipusilie Angami, Additional Director of School Education stressed the importance of Science in the society and maintained that it was difficult to exist in the present society without Science.

The students should learn something to benefit through Physics, he added.

He called upon the Science teachers to make their teaching technique easier and familiar, and at the same time to arrange special classes for the Naga children. 

He maintained that such steps would enable the student to get involved in the subject with greater height of interest and enhance ‘joyful learning of Science.’

He asserted that the progress of children depended on thorough knowledge of Science.

Stressing on the need to have close co-ordination between the government and private institutions, Nipusilie observed that through this, progress could be attained in the field of education.

Earlier, the function was chaired by Khevito Sema, Joint Director, School Education while Imrong L. Imchen, Deputy Director gave the vote of thanks.

The objective of the seminar is to inculcate in the minds of young students a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical thinking, to provide a platform to the budding scientists for exchanging ideas and to nurture a feeling of national integration among young talents from every corner of the country.
