Mon, February 19 (MExN): With an objective to develop the potentials of youths in the district, a one-day district youth convention was held at NPF hall, Mon on February 15.
John Makhabo, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Mon stated in a press release that members of youth clubs were brought together to enhance their capacity to work as effective youth leaders in their respective areas. The programme had cultural component to ensure that the youth carry forward the good traditional values and folklores, it added. Around 111 youths attended the convention.

The chief guest, Leiwang, District Employment Exchange officer, Mon called upon the youth to excel in their academic fields. He asked them to compete with the other tribes. He stated that in modern world there is cut throat competitions; the good ones are selected while those who could not excel have no place in job avenues. He stated that as a student, they should devote their time in studies to prepare for career. “Naga youth are second to none,” he asserted. “We can definitely excel only if we compound it with hard work and discipline into our lifestyles.”
He further urged the youths to put extra efforts, and change the mindset for their own advantage. Affirming that each society has its own unique culture and talent, he asked the participants to be responsible in taking their own culture forward. He also encouraged them not to indulge in drug abuse and misuse God’s given gift. He asked them to be responsible citizens by performing their respective duties with sincerity and honesty.
Meren, ACT, NYK Mon delivered the keynote address. He informed that Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan is an autonomous body under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and was established in the year 1972. It has its district offices in more than 623 districts with 50 regional offices and 20 zonal directorates across the country. He stated that NYK focuses on youth capacity building through 1.8 lakh youth clubs across the country.
The youth convention in Mon also saw the declaration of district Best Youth Club Award 2012-2013, which went to Young Kid’s Club, Tanhai village. The Award carried a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and citation. Sports materials were also distributed to the youth clubs. Cultural presentations and displays by various youth clubs like AFM Chingai Ward Club, and Sacrifice Cooperation Club, Honphoi Village were some of the highlights of the convention.
