Nerhu Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS)/MY BHARAT, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India in collaboration with Nagaland State disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Government of India held the inaugural programme for Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS), training programme held at Central Training Institute (CTI), SDRF, Toluvi, Dimapur on July 30.
Commandant General of Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Nagaland, Aotemsu, IPS while delivering a speech encouraged the young volunteers to actively engage in the training and equip themselves with the necessary skills in disaster preparedness and response. Emphasizing the importance of their role, he motivated the youth to approach the programme with dedication and sincerity, especially in their responsibilities as medical first responders.
The participants were also advised to look beyond the training itself, to consider pursuing avenues where they can contribute more meaningfully to the protection of the environment and the safety of the nation.
By building the spirit of volunteerism and civic responsibility, the programme aims not only to prepare skilled disaster response teams but also to nurture a generation of committed, capable, and environmentally conscious citizens.
YAMS is a scheme for Training of young volunteers and youth organizations of the country in disaster preparedness and disaster response. The training is being held for 7days (30th July 2025 - 05th August 2025) which will be held Central Training Institute Home Guards Civil Defence and SDRF, Toluvi Dimapur with participants from Peren, Phek, Wokha, Longleng and Tseminyu district.
The inauguration programme was chaired by Wopenthung Kikon, District Coordinator, Wokha and introduction was given by resource persons and trainers and trainees.
