Chümoukedima, May 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation and Chakhroma Public Organisation on May 22 adopted a joint resolution extending support for the early completion of the proposed Trans-Nagaland National Highway, also known as the Foothill Road, and condemned the recent violence and killings in Manipur.

The resolution was adopted during a consultative meeting held at the CPO Hall in Chümoukedima, where the two apex organisations discussed socio-political and security issues affecting the region.

In the resolution, the organisations expressed appreciation to the Nagaland government and various civil society organisations for making the long-pending Foothill Road project from Khelma to Tizit a reality.

The two bodies resolved to extend full cooperation to the state government for early completion of the project and said they would take responsibility for necessary surveys and alignment supervision related to the highway.

They further stated that, without bias or favour towards any civil society organisation, they would not allow any organisation from outside Peren and Chümoukedima districts to interfere with or hamper the progress of the project.

The organisations also urged the Nagaland government to take up the matter with the Centre for expediting the proposed Trans-Nagaland National Highway project and issuing work orders to deserving firms at the earliest.

The meeting also expressed concern over the prevailing situation in Manipur, particularly the continuing violence involving Kukis and Nagas in the state.

The two organisations strongly condemned the May 13 ambush, mass abduction and killing of hostages at Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur and appealed to all parties involved to prioritise human life and regional peace.

In another resolution, the NZPO and CPO decided to organise a cultural exchange programme every three years in alternate districts of Peren and Chümoukedima to strengthen and revive Tenyimia ties.
