OBASS Nagaland Chapter intends to enhance welfare of the State

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 19 (MExN): The Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS) Nagaland Chapter held its Annual Conference today at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumukedima. 

L. Kire IFS, President, OBASS Nagaland Chapter, giving the welcome address first lauded the Chief Minister for his guidance and dedication towards OBASS. He then proceeded saying that the Uniqueness of the OBASS was that it strived to enhance the social bonds of the Alumni with their schoolmates along with their families and friends. And through this bondage it further strives to enhance the welfare of the society in general, in the sense that the OBASS cadets belongs to all ranks in the society- Politicians, senior Bureaucrats, Technocrats, Army Officials, Police Personnel’s, Paramilitary, Doctors, Church Leaders, Educationists, Businessmen, and so on. Hence, the President opined that the OBASS cadets should continue to reach out to other unprivileged section of the society through their services. 

While it was a blessing the Conference saw the presence of many cadets, the Association also made it important that the ones departed were also remembered in their midst. Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, Dermatologist, Zion Hospital and Research Centre, Dimapur, gave the Obituary Reference of departed cadets in the last two years. As a mark of respect and paying homage, the gathering observed a minute silence. 

H. K. Khulu IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Developmental Commissioner, Nagaland shared that to be a part of OBASS was a proud privilege for all cadets. He also congratulated the dedicated members of OBASS for their efforts towards the success of the Association’s Annual Conference; it only showed their devotion to their Alma Matter. H. K. Khulu, then presented the felicitation of retired members whose services rendered only strengthened the OBASS. The OBASS felicitated Shurhovi Haralu, Retd. Wing Commander; Mhondamo Ovung, Retd. Chief Engineer, PHED; Dr. B. Yanger Ao, Retd. CMO, Peren; Retd. Colonel Sajukha Rengma; and Obanglemba Ao IPS, Retd. DGP Nagaland, at the Annual Conference.  

K. Khekiho Shohe, General Secretary, OBASS presented a brief report of the Association’s achievements and Action plans. Some of its main action plans is to establish the OBASS office at the Capital Kohima, and a recreational centre at Dimapur for family members and most importantly the creation of the Association website, which was launched by the Chief Minister at the Conference. 

Chief Minister opened his address comically saying it was pleasant to get-together once a while with the ‘Naughty Boys’ through this platform. He lauded that each member/cadet were commendable members who not only serves their family but the state as a whole. He nostalgically also remarked that the kind of disciplined education received from Sainik Schools only made them who they were today. He said that the intention of OBASS was to work together for a welfare state, and as such, one achievement was the opening of Sainik School in Nagaland, which imparted quality education today. Finally, with the Assembly Election announced, he sought support of the OBASS for his next ‘interview’ as he joked, and if he became a responsible man again, he would continue to be at the command of the OBASS and the State, he stated.
