A meeting of all political parties with the General Observers and Police Observer of Mon district was conducted on February 10 at DC’s conference hall here.

Three General Observers – Manoj Kumar, IAS, Atul Kumar Gupta, IAS, and Prabanshu Srivastav, IAS – and one Police Observer Puneet Rastogi, IPS, have been deployed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for Mon district.

Addressing the candidates and political parties, the observers informed them to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations laid down in the Model Code of Conduct by ECI.

The observers also stated they are here to ensure free and fair conduct of election and warned against malpractices such as proxy voting, buying of votes on the voting day, and distribution of liquors, cash, gifts etc to lure the voters, which amount to violation of the code of conduct. Necessary action will be initiated as per the provision, they said.

The political parties/candidates were also asked to seek prior permission/inform the DC & DEO whenever a star campaigner is coming to address a rally or for that matter, whenever they are organising a public meeting, so that adequate security is provided for peaceful conduct of rally/public meeting.

Stating “election is held once in 5 years but people coexist,” the Police Observer appealed to all political parties to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of election. He further warned all political parties to avoid hate speeches and speeches demeaning caste, creed and religion.

The observers also held a meeting with all the political agents.
