Obstruction on entry of returnees may invite penal action: Neiba

Dimapur, May 21 (MExN): Minister for Planning and Coordination, Neiba Kronu, on May 21 said that immediate and effective penal action may be taken against individuals or organisations obstructing entry of persons to their colonies or wards, or for setting up of quarantine centres by the Government.


According to a DIPR report, the Minister took note of reports of unwarranted directives being issued by certain individuals/organizations obstructing entry of persons returning to Nagaland from outside the State into their wards/ colonies, even after completion of the stipulated quarantine period.


He also noted undue obstructions being created for the setting up of quarantine centres by the Government in wards/colonies.
The State Government has given instructions to the Deputy Commissioners for sensitizing the concerned individuals/organizations/colony authorities on such unwarranted actions which infringe on individual rights as well as violate Government orders, the report said.


Such cases of obstruction may invite penal action under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the report said.


The Minister also requested the support of every individual in the “united fight against COVID-19”.
