Kohima, June 13 (MExN): A seven-day training programme on language and culture for Language Officers and Assistant Language Officers concluded at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema on June 11.
Prof. R.C. Gupta, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NU, Kohima Campus, graced as chief guest, Prof. N.Venuh, Dean School of Social Sciences as guest of honour and Prof. N. Das, Dean School of Humanities and Education, Head (i/c) of the centre as chairperson during the valedictory function.
Prof. R.C Gupta said that language never die on its own. It gets lost in two ways: abandoned by the speaker and ignored by the Government. He encouraged the LOs, ALOs and the LAs to be more active and vibrant and work for the development of one’s own language and culture, a press note stated here.
In the valedictory function the guest of honour Prof. Venuh said that our language is our identity. Our languages are very beautiful but our people are unaware of it and because of dominant force we are losing our languages. He was of the opinion that the most precious gift that we can pass on to our next generation is our language and culture.
Dr. Bijenkumar, Course-Director gave the report on the training programme. He announced that there were 22 participants in total for the training programme representing the 16 recognised tribes and the 18 recognised languages by the Government of Nagaland. Dr. Imlienla Imchen Course In-charge concluded the programme by pronouncing the vote of Thanks.
