Oh! For a Common burial ground...

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): ‘Even in death, we want to be together’, seems to be what the people of Longleng aspires  for, but so far, it has not been successful for the people of Longleng district due to non availability of land for a common cemetery for the dead citizens of the town.

According to a press statement about the minutes of the monthly DP&DB meeting held on September 6, the Deputy Commissioner & Vice Chairman DP&DB, Longleng, Wepretso Mero, he said that all the vacant land belonging to the government in the town area has been utilized for developmental purposes and so the only possible way is to acquire new plot of land was to purchase it.

“So the possible way is to purchase land from private individuals (land owners) for running common Cemetery,” said Mero in the press statement. However, the ‘Site Search Committee’ had eyed  a site belonging to the Agriculture Department.

In favour of the Search Committee proposal, the SDAO Agri Department, explained in detail about the position of the Agriculture Department and at the same time encouraged the Board to approach the higher  authourity  for the proposed site.

Mero said that the matter was decided to be recommended to the Director of Agriculture Department Kohima for purchase of two acres of land in the Department owned land at Longleng town.

The DC  and Vice Chairman DP & DB, Longleng, Wepretso Mero, also disclosed that the Longleng DIS and SDO Tamlu (C) gave  detail work progress reports. They reported that except for two schools in Longleng district-Government GPS Ladigarh, Tamlu and one GPS in Longleng, all the works have been completed.

Giving reasons for the non completion of the works in the two schools, the officers reported that the problem in Ladigarh government Lower Primary  School is the road condition in rainy season and the absence and non-residing of the VEC Chairman and Village Council Chairman in the village.

However, both the DIS and SDO (C) assured that the works wouldcommence during the winter and that the existing members will handle the fund. As for the GPS, Longleng town, the construction works will be undertaken during the winter break, said the statement.

Mero also informed that the Deputy Project Officer DRDA requested for allotment of Government site for the construction of the DRDA office building and staff quarters in Longleng town. However, the Board suggested the DRDA to either search for private land i since there was no government land in the town or to wait for some time till the completion of the next site survey for the extension of Longleng town area.

Mero also disclosed that the matter regarding the opening of two private schools; Christ School at Yongnyah village and Vision Vale School at Longleng Town was also thoroughly discussed after which the Board decided to recommend the School Education Department for further approval. .

However, with regard for opening of new schools, the statement said that the Longleng DC instructed the concerned department in the district to verify the site for construction of volleyball and basketball ground and added that such area should be available in the school compound. “These facilities will be strictly taken up in the near future,” said Mero.
