With the opening of its new annex building and centre, the Oking Hospital and Research Clinic (OHARC), Kohima today announced its vision to shift from a traditional healthcare centre to one of “Smart Hospital.”
This was conveyed through a brochure during the inauguration of the new annex building of Oking Hospital Kohima today by chief minister Neiphiu Rio and dedicated by Rev Keviyakielie Linyü.
The different components of a Smart Hospital which includes smart technology, smart healthcare, smart transport integrates systems and processes to create an efficient, effective and systematic work ecosystem, with information and communication technology being the most vital element that enables this shift from one of the traditional healthcare centre to one of “Smart Hospital.”
With the new centre, OHARC has integrated a network of system into its architecture to support and create ecosystem of work processes that will facilitate our shift to a “Smart Hospital.”
The concept of re-establishment of the new OHARC as a smart hospital has been envisioned with the objective of integrating intelligent practices to the traditional working systems so as to consolidate the multiple systems, resources and location into an eco system or interoperability, decentralization and information management to create a lean and efficient work system.
“With this vision of ours we commit to redefine the delivery of healthcare practices and provide the most effective and quality healthcare to our valued patents,” OHARC stated in a brochure.
Provides healthcare to 10 lakh patients over two decades
OHARC Hospital, over two decades has catered and provided quality healthcare to more than 10 lakh patients across Nagaland and also from the neighboring states.
Today, OHARC is the first hospital in north east and third in India to be equipped with a fully functional glass operation theatre.
OHARC is a 130-bedded state of the art hospital, centrally located in Kohima.
Established in 1994 with humble beginnings, OHARC became a full-fledged hospital in 1996 keeping in view the rapid change and progress made in the field of medicine and also with the objective of providing modern diagnostic and therapeutic facilities to the people of Nagaland as well as the neighboring states.
Stating that OHARC is proud of being a pioneer in ushering digital healthcare in the state, it stated “We were the first to install a Fourth Generation CT Scan in the year 1998.”
OHARC is also the first to install LASER for RIRS and MRI in 2011 and also first to install Ligasure (TYCO) and High definition camera besides Color Doppler, Ultrasound, high ends X-ray machines, ECG machines, operating microscope, endoscopy/ colonoscopy and also fully equipped and up to date laboratory.
OHARC has also introduced the latest Laparoscopic operating equipments in Nagaland in 2000 and perhaps the first to do so with Harmonic Scalpel and Ligasure (cutting edge equipments for laparoscopic surgery). Since then it has achieved major milestone in advanced Laparoscopic procedures of international recognition. “With the acquiring of C-ARM, all urological procedures including Uretenephroscopy, complicated orthopaedic procedures, Thoracolaparascopy, etc are now performed on a regular basis,” it stated.
OHARC has been empanelled by different departments and agencies. Some of the organizations empanelled with the hospital includes; IGNOU, BSNL, Central Bank, Army/Para Military, Lombard/ICICI, HDFC ERGO, RSBY, Healthassure (Apollo Munich and ESIS Nagaland.
Upcoming frontier
With a vision to be a leading healthcare provider in the region, OHARC announced that it will continuously strive to be a benchmark in pushing new boundaries and frontiers in medical sciences.
“It is our commitment to be a centre of excellence providing the best healthcare practices and services to the community and also to continually redefine and re-invent our healthcare practices to keep up with the continuous and rapid advancements in medical science and technology,” it stated.
OHARC also intend to introduce and dedicate new projects and facilities for the service of the people. It includes; stroke centre, cardiac centre with cath lab, laser for retinal (eye) treatment, new born care centre, B.Sc. Nursing College, DNB (Diplomatic of National Board) MS Course, medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, NABH Accreditation (National Accreditation Boards for Hospitals & Health Care Providers), renal transplant and robotic surgery.
