The 39th general conference of the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) is underway at Kupza village, Mokokchung on the theme ‘Liberated Education’ with 535 delegates from 18 units. The three-day event will conclude on January 19.
The conference was inaugurated by Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA on Wednesday while the second day was graced by Metsubo Jamir, Minister, RD & SIRD, Government of Nagaland.
A workshop session was also held where Dr Sashiyangba, District Project Officer, Tseminyu and Likokba, JDA, Treasuries & Accounts and founder, Insight NPSC Educational Trust, Nagaland where the resource persons. Dr Sashiyangba spoke on the topic “career and prospects in agri and allied sectors” and Likokba spoke on “navigating through various competitive exams.”
In the third session Dr Lanurenla, Principal, Sao Chang Government College was the theme speaker. In her speech stated that the system when they grew up was without any options and education was job-oriented while the problem with the present generation is having too many options.
She said that a liberated student is someone who has critical thinking and is an independent learner. She added that a liberated student should be someone who is in praxis and who has self-introspection knowing one’s core and essence.
She challenged the 21st centurions to understand and deconstruct the power structure by giving right and power to women and girl in our society. She further added that English is just a medium of communication but our Ao literature is our essence and identity is also a characteristic of a liberated student. She concluded her speech by questioning whether organizations and student conferences will just be a debatable organization or one that leads the Aos forward practically.
OKM general conference will conclude on Friday with Imkongmar, Advisor, Minority affairs and sericulture as the special guest and Chubayanger , Deputy Labour Commissioner & CEO, NBOCWWB as the theme speaker.
