Mokokchung, October 4 (MExN): The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) has condemned the alleged assault of a student in Mokokchung Town on September 30, terming it an “inhuman” and “barbaric” act that has deeply shaken the community.
In a statement issued on October 4, the OKM said the incident represented a “deep disrespect to society as a whole.” It called upon the competent authorities to handle the matter “with urgency and seriousness,” and to ensure justice for the victim with “appropriate legal penalties for the offender.”
The OKM stated that it “will not remain silent spectators to injustice” and will take all necessary actions if the authorities fail to act decisively. Expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, the OKM said, “The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference stands firmly with the victim and her family in this time of deep anguish and reaffirms that such act of brutality within the Ongpangkong jurisdiction will never be tolerated under any circumstances.”
The organisation further declared that it will “leave no stone unturned in seeking accountability now and in the days to come,” and appealed to all to “refrain from such merciless act in due course.”
