‘Old Beisumpui boundary claim is baseless’

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Old Nkio Village Council has claimed that the statement issued by Old Beisumpui Village which was published on August 6 last - “Old Beisumpui Village On Demarcated Boundary” is “completely baseless”.
Stating that the claim absolutely “wild and motive behind such statement is to confuse the general public and create disharmony in the community”.

The Chairman of Old Nkio Village Council, Kusap in a rejoinder stated that the ancestral land boundary respected by Old Beisumpui and Old Nkkio is naturally Intangki upto the confluence at Tamaki (Dhanshiri River). But in order to maintain social harmony and peace, old Nkio Village consented to be a signatory in the memorandum of understanding entered between Zeliangrong Baudi (N) and Kuki Inpi (N) in the year 1999.

Wherein, it was specified that the land ownership of Songngou, Old Soget, Phaikholum, Sailhhem, khelma came under old Nkio excepting new Soger and Bongkolong. When the apex tribal bodies entered an understanding which was an important historic event, all the parties involved had agreed to abide by the termed and condition enshrined in the said MoU. Therefore, it is “ridiculous for Old Beisumpui to make a fresh claim” and it is seen as a bad “design and certainly not healthy sign”, the note added.

The Village Council in the note has demanded that “Old Beisumpui should publicly apologise” for releasing such statement and “retreat their claim”.

“Old Nkio Village would defend its land at whatever cost. As per the past statement which covers Azu Newmei, Old Nkio wishes to clarify that the land which was designated to establish ‘Nkio Namdi’ was under the jurisdiction of Nkio village land, which is vacant at present”, it said.

Moreover, it said that the no objection certificate was granted to Azu Newmai and does not violate any ones right and ownership. The allegation leveled against him by Old Beisupui is directly aimed at Old Nkio and we are determined to face any challenge. “It would be wise for Old Beisumpui Village to desist from opening the chapter which was closed for good.”
