Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): The deputy commissioner of Wokha is appealed to intervene over the issue of the exclusion of New Riphyim Village and Doyang from 37th A/c as proposed in the new draft working paper VI.
A letter to Wokha’s DC from the chairman of Old Riphyim Village Council, K Jerry Patton explained that New Riphyim village had remained as ‘C’ khel of present Old Riphyim. T was divided into ‘Old’ and ‘New’ only in the later part of 1958 for administrative convenience. Being traditional one, the two villages “can never be broken into pieces under the grab of delimitation” the council stated. It was also mentioned that the left bank of Doyang River is just an extension the two villages, Changsu old and new and that it has been conveniently incorporated under the Wokha administration since its inception.
“The demarcation or the division between 37 Tyui Assembly Constituency and 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency has been clearly made by the Doyang River itself….and that the question of geographical contiguity and close proximity for shifting or incorporating New Riphyim village and Doyang to 39 Sanis A/c does not arise and the act itself is a total contravention of the guidelines and methodology of the delimitation Act 2002” the council asserted.
The council further contented that New Riphyim village and Doyang (left bank) is an integral part of Englan range consisting of seven villages. The council endorses the demand of “JAC” for total implementation of the Delimitation Act 2002. Any attempt at break up would be opposed tooth and nail, the council cautioned and appealed to the DC to intervene to see that the probity of Englan range is maintained.
